The
World's Very First Golf Dome was engineered and erected in
White Plains, NY by ASATI CEO Donato Fraioli in 1982. This
structure and another Golf Dome ASATI installed in Detroit on
John “R” Road are responsible for the recognition of the use of
air structures for “Golf Domes”. ASATI created the Golf Domes
concept and pioneered the growth of the indoor Golf Dome
industry worldwide. Donato Fraioli patented the very first Golf
Dome and developed the first indoor golf ranges that charged the
use of the golf range by time rather then by the bucket of
balls. The Golf Dome size and shape was developed to allow every
golf club in the bag to be used without the trajectory and
flight of the golf ball to be interrupted by the roof or walls
of the Golf Dome. The very first Golf Domes were made triangular
in shape to allow 50 golf tees to be installed on the 280’ front
wide end of the dome and the target end 90’ wide with a roof
height of 80 feet. This shape provided maximum use of the Golf
Dome while the total volume reduced to make this the most energy
efficient Golf Dome to operate.
In later
years ASATI engineered and constructed the first Golf Domes with
rectangular floor plans to allow the grass field to be used for
soccer and other multi-sports when the golf range was not in
use.
